Speechless

We spent the whole day in Disneyland today and had a blast. My son Eric really wanted to see this comedy show that was happening in Frontierland. We couldn't figure out at first where is was supposed to be. We were standing around the "Golden Horseshoe" and all of a sudden these guys were doing this western improv drama right there on the street.

The story, in short, was the mayor's daughter is ugly and Clem Clodhopper doesn't want to marry her, so they're going to do a "dating game" thing right there. I get picked out of the crowd and blindfolded (see the picture). They then ask some questions that we answer and then the crowd gets to vote. I didn't win, but did pretty well on the applause-o-meter.

But here's the thing that got me. I'm not afraid of being in front of a crowd. I'm pretty quick on my feet to answer questions. I do alright at Trivial Pursuit (and Jeopardy, Who wants to be a Millionaire, etc.). But when I'm supposed to be witty and funny at the spur of the moment, I completely choke! I listen to a fair amount of music, but when they asked what song I would sing on a romantic boat ride with my "date", I completely zoned out. I couldn't think of ONE FUNNY TITLE! Of course the guy next to me comes up with "Who let the dogs out?"

I have a lot of new found respect for these guys that can do improv like the "Whose line is it anyway?" guys, and the "Thank God you're here…" actors. I guess my brain just isn't that quick on the draw.
